This short course provides an introduction to Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), also known as HAVS. Participants will learn about the symptoms, consequences, and risk factors associated with HAVS. The course covers equipment and work-related situations that pose a risk, legal exposure values, practical steps to reduce risk, and compliance with health surveillance laws.
HAVS causes changes in the sensation of the fingers. Which can lead to permanent numbness of fingers, muscle weakness and, in some cases, bouts of white finger.
It is caused by working with vibrating tools. It would be unusual to develop hand-arm vibration syndrome without using vibrating tools regularly for at least ten years.
Stopping working with vibrating tools may prevent mild symptoms from becoming worse.
